Reflective Essay: A Career As A Residential Leader

The leadership a residential leader has is astonishing. The amount of time and effort that an RLs put into our halls is what helps the hall come together as a whole and builds a family. A truly committed Residential Leader takes time out of their day to check on their residence even when it is not their job to help us at emotional times. At one point, I was having panic attack during T-Week due to the thoughts of my classes and my RL stayed up until one in the morning helping me calm down by explaining that everyone was feeling the same way I was. He did not have to do that, but he did it for me. I would be given the opportunity to learn how to handle rough situations that may occur, such as handling students that are caught with alcohol. Experiencing a situation as such, will provide me with the opportunity to witness what it is like for a police officer handling the situation It will increase my skill set, along with my abilities to lead groups. I am passionate about obtaining new skills that will benefit me in the long run. Being an adult that oversees others will help me in my future occupations, such as being a Sherriff of a police station. Communication is also a major benefit to an job. I am hoping to obtain the skill of communication for future jobs. When talking to the press on a job, it is best to be about to express what I am saying. I need to be able to have a diverse language when approaching a situation to insure I do not offend anyone. I will also have the pleasure of showing students how college is not as difficult and scary as it is made out to be. The building are easy to find after a week or two. Most teachers care about their academic success, so if you miss a test, talk to them about it. They are very understanding on emergencies or family
