There is five criteria to satisfy over the conventional cars which are congestion problem solution, safety improvements, less impact on environment, economic feasibility, and comfort and convenience. This five transit criterion must be satisfied for changing the transportation planning. …show more content…
This would also be safer and efficient than human drivers as there would be less road rage and carelessness. However, there would be a need to protect the autonomous car or taxi by anti-virus system and security system which does not let hackers hack the car. This would be very unsafe if there is no software and antivirus infrastructure. There would also be lower energy wasted and fewer accidents. The goods would also be cheaper as there is decline in transportation costs. (Tracy, …show more content…
This method of lowering wind resistance by driving closely behind each other is called platooning. Other efficiencies include optimally routing trips and smoother acceleration and braking. Autonomous taxi is cheaper than ordinary taxis as they are more energy efficient and no driver is needed so this would cut down the costs drastically. If by 2030, the conventional vehicles shifted their sales by 5% to the autonomous vehicles it would create 800,000 autonomous vehicles and reduce the oil consumption by 7Million barrel of oil per year, and lower greenhouse gas emission between 2.1-2.4 million metric tons of CO3 per year. This calculation is done by estimating the number of trips generated by the National Household Travel survey data from federal highway administration.
