The USA and USSR’s relationships developed during World War 2 quickly diminished as America declared war on Russia for their communist way. During the cold war due to the conflict between the USA and the USSR many new weaponry systems were developed, one of these weapons was missiles as well as new methods of launching them with pin point accuracy using orbital satellites. This new development ment that there were constant threats between countries to launch a missile at the other, this was a defining aspect of the cold war as it meant that countries could still fight and have power without sending soldiers onto a battle field. The development of missiles also greatly contributed to the space race as many missile designs were used to create space shuttles including the rocket used by Yuri Gagarin, the first man to ever go to space. Many new long range fighter jets and bombers were also developed for dropping bombs on opposing countries, these planes contributed to the space race also but not as much as they contributed to the development of modern day planes as we know them. Unlike rockets and space shuttles which orbit the planet as they travel, plane rely on gliding, lift and aerodynamics in order to fly. Many new fighter jets were being made to be able to fly as mac 1 and were the start of a new generation of military and commercial planes like the sophisticated ones that we travel on today that allow us to travel around the world with ease.
