Global Warming Policy Analysis

In 1989, a substantial policy was enacted that brought countries together from all around the world to combat the diminishing ozone layer. This policy, The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, was a significant step in improving the effects of climate change. Since then, very few successful policies have been enacted. The problem of global warming has been increasing and now that the effects are being felt, talk of actions have been developing. With many factors associated with the cause of global warming, a single course plan does not suffice. The biggest contributor to global warming is excess greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. Reducing carbon emissions is the best course of action in order to prevent the problem …show more content…
Currently, our infrastructure is highly dependent on fossil fuels and it will take time before there is any drastic shift. In the meantime, energy efficiency is key. According to Ghoniem, energy efficiency needs to be implemented in two areas, converting raw energy and better practices in utilizing energy. We can become more energy efficient in converting raw energy into usable energy by improving electric generation power plants. Technological advances in gas separation and higher temperature gas turbines in these plants can increase efficiency from 32% to 60% (35). These policy changes provide efficiency improvements in converting raw energy sources while better practices in utilizing energy are little changes we as individuals can do to lower our carbon …show more content…
According to Bardescu, the average car that has traveled 10,000 kilometers releases 3.0 tons of CO2 (1125). Transportation accounts for 27% of the total energy used in the United States (Ghoniem 45). Car manufacturers can reduce the amount of carbon released into the atmosphere by manufacturing cars that are more energy efficient. Not only will this drastically lower the amount of carbon released, but will also increase gas mileage making the cars more consumer friendly by saving them money in gas. Some car manufacturers have already started this process, such as Honda and Toyota manufacturing hybrid models and high gas mileage cars. The goal is to keep this trend going. As technology keeps on improving, more efficient cars and appliances will be made, appealing to consumers and reducing the impact of carbon on our

It seems as if today you hear about global warming everyday. One of many proposed solution to this problem is going more energy efficient. This solution can reduce our carbon footprint and help make it so that global warming does not get worse. Economics had a big influence on this solution, whether people can afford upgrading equipment or not, and going energy efficient will help people to save money on utility bills in the long run. There are also many political factors that go into this solution, whether the government is on board with this idea and whether they help people and other nations go more energy efficient.…

The plug-in hybrid is the way to go The future of automobiles is changing very rapidly. With a demand for less pollution and more efficient vehicles, we need to have alternatives to petroleum powered vehicles. As of now there are a couple of choices to choose from. You can currently buy a pure electric vehicle, a plug-in hybrid vehicle, or a regular hybrid vehicle, as an alternative to standard gasoline powered cars. Of the choices listed, the plug-in vehicle, is the best option for an alternative to standard petroleum vehicles.…

The cheapest hybrid costs a little less than $20,000, while the most expensive luxury model costs more than $100,000. We need to educate people on how much hybrid cars help the community. White states "Educating people on how much hybrid cars save energy could work" that means teaching people on how they work could help sell more hybrid cars. It is possible to teach people that hybrid cars use twin-powered engines. Hybrid cars use a rechargeable energy storage system to supplement fossil fuel energy for vehicle propulsion.…

Many people don’t realize that one of the ways to reduce global warming is by saving energy. Generating energy doesn’t happen on its own; in fact we use combustion of fossil fuels to produce energy. The word combustion by itself will give you a heads up of understanding the relation between energy and global warming. Combustion means burning; and burning fossil fuels is very important to us because it is our source of energy, but if we don’t help in saving energy, factories will burn more and more fossil fuels to produce more energy for us. The more the factories burn fossil fuels the more pollution it will cause, meaning more greenhouse effect due to the waste gases that is produced, which can cause a climate change.…

The burden of the tax would also fall more heavily on energy-intensive industries as well as lower-income households. However, revenue generated from the carbon tax could be used to offset the regressive impact or even cut taxes that reduce the incentives to work, save, and invest. This system would not only correct the current market failure that has resulted in increasing environmental damage, but also help firms and households shift to implementing alternative green technologies. This is because putting a price on carbon would have a range of implications for clean technology innovation, as well as raise the price of fossil fuels, pulling the demand from using fossil fuels to renewable green energy. This demand-pull can then incentivize greater levels of research and development into such green technologies…

The Toyota Prius Hyrbid gets roughly 50 miles per gallon- 10 more than the most fuel-efficient, gas-only car. With the ever-increasing popularity and production of electric and hybrid cars, car companies are going to keep making these vehicles more and more convenient and inexpensive. In the next 10 years, fuel efficiency will keep increasing. In 2011, President Obama announced that there was an agreement with the thirteen major automakers to pursue a fuel economy of 54.5 MPG by 2025. This fuel standard will drastically reduce the United State’s dependence on foreign oil, pollute the environment less, and save American’s money at the pump.…

More carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere means that more plants will grow. Some other basic gains from increases in global temperatures include fewer people dying from seasonal related illnesses such as hypothermia due to cold temperatures. Global warming is also “good” from an economic stand point. Longer summers correlate to shorter winters which means there will be fewer weather-related interruptions in countries that experience long and harsh…
