According to studies that took place recently, it was said that every one in four people are illiterate. Being illiterate impacts some people in a negative way. They have a difficult time learning and holding new information, writing and reading what is beyond their scope of simple terms and sentences. “The notion that illiterate people are poor and stupid couldn’t be farther from the truth. Quite the contrary, most are quite smart. They have spent years learning how to cleverly cover up their secret. They have learned how to finely tune their other skills to make up for not being able to read or write. It is much like a blind person whose senses of smell, touch, and hearing become much more accurate to compensate for their loss of sight.” …show more content…
Illiterate people could have a difficult time with many things. They might not understand what is being said to them, and there would probably be an issue with communication. They would struggle with emails, text messages, the work force, and most of all education. Although now they offer special classes that teach slower, tests are being read to illiterate people and colleges offer more time on exams. This should be able to improve their overall knowledge. Illiterate people may be able to give their short and simple responses but literate people may be giving them words that are too advance for them. The educational system, isn’t as useful as what it once was, now students are using computers to spell check essays instead of dictionaries, and teachers are relying on their less knowledgeable assistants to make the learning modules for students. Also technology seems out of control, this could be another reason why so many people are illiterate. All people do is play for the most part, violent video games, sit on their laptops all day, watch endless episodes of shows on television, and many people even eat a thanksgiving meal without thinking of putting their phone down. Another aspect could be how parents raise their children. In the past few years many mothers, are single mothers. It’s harder on the mother and they are more likely to give up on their child, I personally see many mothers dumping their children with complete strangers that don’t know the first thing about babies. Some children aren’t advancing as they should be and they also aren’t being interactive which could cause them to be illiterate later in life.
