The Sumerian style of writing was pictographs, a picture to represent a word used in 3300 to 3000 B.C. The Egyptian style of writing was hieroglyphs, similar to pictographs, it was used in 3300 B.C. Throughout the years, and many writers used to hand-write many of their pieces of work. However, that changed whenever the writing press was invented in 1440 by Johannes Gutenberg. Instead of handwriting everything, it was easier to print off a mass production at a faster rate. Then writing evolved whenever typewriters and computers were invented. It allowed writers to write at a faster rate and able to fix any mistakes faster. It was easier to make perfect letters with correct spacing, which is harder to do whenever you are handwriting. Modern-day technology has changed the ways of writing by expanding the ability to obtain and provide information.
There are vast amounts of different technology being used for writing. It began with the typewriter and since then there has been more and more made, such as computers, and phones, and many others. Through each generation technological advances have been one of the top reasons why writing styles have changed. Here are some different generations with some different writing styles throughout time. The first generation with a unique writing style is generation Baby Boomers. This generation “lasted from1943 to 1960” (Bonkowski), the people during this time period had very different views on the world because it was a very different time back then. Their views usually affected their writing styles, so most of the writing was “idealistic, anti-war, [yet] educated” (Bonkowski). The next generation to have unique writing styles is Generation X which “lasted from 1961 to 1981” (Bonkowski). The people during this time period had different views from Baby Boomers. Their views were more “techno-savvy, independent, [yet] focused” (Bonkowski). Now the current generation, or the Millennials, “began in 2001” (Hisham) and is still underway. This generation has been the most affected by the technological advances. The views of the people are “hyperactive, short attention spans, [yet] strong social focus” (Hisham).
