Introduction
Social media has considerably changed the manner in which we communicate today. Decades ago, people used to communicate by face-to-face conversation or mailing and land line telephone among other outdone mediums, which have been replaced by technological changes. In the present world, people send text messages, use instant messages, leave voice messages, and talk on webcams, headphones, cell phones as well as the internet (Sternberg, 2012). This means that the social media has greatly modified communication to modernized way. This discussion evaluates to what extent has the social media replaced face-to-face communication.

Social media has not always been the forefront of everyone lives however technology has now evolved to the point that society is dependent on it. People tend to rely heavily on the weak connections presented by the social media sites ignoring the strong bond that results from face to face connection. Bearing in mind that social media is a mode of communication that has operated in a time span of 10 years, the world should notably be aware that this is a very short period in relation to the history of communication (Demeulenaere, 2011). It should be given time to be closely examined to evaluate its importance as well as its characteristically damaging features it has brought along with it. Well, it is correct to say that social media is and has been an influential global communication tool, but the truth is that it is not an established confirmed tool for communication that is yet to deeply root itself in the communication
