How Social Media Has Affected My Life

When I was sitting in class and you told us both options for the assignment, I quickly picked the first option because I knew I wouldn’t be able to complete the second one. Social media for the past couple years has had such a big impact on my life. It’s how I communicate with my friends when we’re not in school, it’s how I talk to family members that don’t live in the U.S, it’s how I communicate with students in my class to complete a projects, and I’m not going to lie even how I talk to certain guys I like. It crazy to see how communication has change because of social media. It used to be “talk to you later” and now its “I will txt you later.” Social media has impacted my live it positive and negative ways. Social media has helped me communicate …show more content…
It was good because it let me open of eyes a little bit more. On a usual day the walk between class consist of me walking and checking my phone for new updates on twitter or Instagram, but the couple days I walked class to class without of phone was kind of nice. I noticed things around me that I usually never did. I walk past the library almost every day, but I never even noticed that they have my favorite flowers (marigolds) planted right by the pathway. It opened my eyes to how nice with campus really is, how the chapel it so pretty and how big the union is. It’s crazy how much you miss around you, when you’re on your phone. I was also surprised to see how many people were on their phones around me. Honestly it was close to 90% of the people. I saw groups of friends walking out of the union but they were all looking down at their phones. It was weird to see this because I know that’s exactly my friends and I look on a regular basses. It’s kind of sad, you’re surrounded by all your friends yet you don’t even talk to them. Not having social media was good because it saved me so much time. I remember sitting in the lounge with all my friends doing homework, and every once in a while my friends would take a break to check their phone but I never did because I knew I couldn’t. So within a couple hours I was done, while my friends’ barley finished half of their homework. Although, not checking my phone was not easy. The amount of times in the day I grabbed my phone to go of social media scared me. I literally would grab my phone every couple of minutes, unlock my phone but then quickly out it back down because I knew I couldn’t go on social media or text. I was honestly ashamed at the amount of times I tried to go on social media. Like I knew I had stuff to do or even the fact that I was in the middle of doing something and I would just grab my phone to go online. I can

On Monday, we listened and read the quotes that were presented on sticky notes from when the freshman wrote down what was interesting and what specific things they remembered from the tours they went on. With this, a couple of freshman students wrote, “students spend 8-10 hours on their phone everyday”. Having this kind of information is very important to know when you’re talking about phone usage and social media because it is pertaining to our audience, which were college students. Although, since I have been in college my perspective of my phone and social media has very much so changed. When I was at home and in high school I would barely ever have my phone on me at all because everyone I needed was right there with me. Since I have been in college my phone is always by my side because my family and friends communicate with me through it and without that I don’t think I could make it two and a half hours away from them all. I can now talk and see what my family and friends are up to without having to pick up the phone and call. This has made it much easier to stay in touch and not lose my high school friends just because were not together every day anymore.…
