Certainly, social media platforms have had a negative impact on society as a whole. The platforms have generated an enormous volume of racist, homophobic, sexist and discriminatory abuse of people in society.
Studies found that football supporters carryout discriminatory post against footballers have used social media platforms. According to studies, the huge number of abusive posts been received by black players.
The case studies below shows Mario Balotelli, of Liverpool received about 8000 discriminatory posts, and more than 52% abuse him on the ground of racism, Danny Welbeck moved from Manchester to Arsenal, received 1700 discriminatory posts, and more than 50% abuse him on the ground of racism and Daniel Sturridge received about 1600 discriminatory posts, and more than 60% abuse him on the ground of sexual orientation (Conn, 2015).
