When I hear about my parents’ school memories and my memories before having a smartphone, much of school was memorization. Memorizing how to solve this type of equation or how to spell that word. When I received a smartphone, I began to think memorization to that extent was pointless and began to instead learn why and how. In the real world, I won’t have to remember how to do synthetic division or how to spot alliteration in poetry because I can find out how to with the push of a button. The IB program I am in seems to realize that, and much of the course is understanding why things are done, with very little emphasis placed on
