President Obama's Immigration Policy

American politician Cory Booker once stated, “Leadership is not a position or a title, it is action and example” (Booker 1). It is what a leader does and how they chose to lead that defines them rather than the letters CEO printed on their name-badge. A leader is someone with courage; someone who believes when everyone else has given up; someone who keeps moving forward despite the unending obstacles set in their path. It is leaders like these that we look for to manage organizations, businesses, and corporations, but most importantly, our country. For centuries, Americans have supported strong leaders in office, and in turn, our nation has seen growth and prosperity. have not only failed, but they have created serious conflicts in the process of legislation. The immigration policy President Obama originally proposed has seen widespread disapproval and remains at a standstill in Congress. With time running out, many wonder if it is even possible for legislation to be passed before his term ends. It is predicted that challenges to the policy will continue up until the last days of Obama’s presidency. Twenty six states and the federal court have already put restraints on the bill’s progress, but many question, “Why?” (de Vogue 1). Obama’s plan to reform immigration would allow millions of undocumented immigrants to come forward for deportation relief and work authorization. However, conflicts did not rise until President Obama proceeded with policy measures by authorizing nearly 2,000 immigrants work permits (de Vogue 2). Not only did he fail to comply with the necessary procedures in establishing federal regulations, but he acted against the interests of American democracy. Speaker of the House John Boehner made the remark that Obama seems “more interested in partisan politics than working with… elected representatives” (“Is Obama’s Immigration” 1). House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte added, “The president’s decision to recklessly forge ahead with a plan to unilaterally change our immigration laws ignores the will of the American people” (“Is Obama’s Immigration” 1). Obama has defied his limits as president and taken it upon himself make decisions he does not have the position to make. He ignored his partners, his beneficiaries, and his nation all in the interests of himself. Now he faces an unpleasant legal position, and his immigration policy is slim to pass. As Obama approaches the end of his term, he still has nothing show for reform. He hasn’t cracked down on illegal immigration, nor has he legalized it.
