“In the first year after the cameras introduction, the use of force by officers’ decline 60%, and citizens’ complaints against police fell 88%”. (Christopher Mims) The introduction of police body cameras impacted the world in many better ways then bad. But, police body cameras where introduced due to the publics awareness to police brutality and numerous of publicity deaths which has impacted the outcome of police interactions. The most famous publicity murder was the Ferguson case, were “Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, was shot and killed on Aug. 9, 2014, by Darren Wilson, a white police officer, in Ferguson, Mo., a suburb of St. Louis.” (New York Times). After the murder a trial went into to action and the verdict came out to be not guilt. This created outrage though out Ferguson Missouri riots, protest, and chaos towards police. The conclusion to the Ferguson trial caused the “White House proposed to distributing some 50,000 body cameras to police departments across the country”. (Uri Friedman) With the distribution of police body cameras around the country I myself have seen to have experience with them. Because once it was required for police to wear them my father had to go buy one off of a website in order to work. So I had helped him set it up and show him how it works. (Nancy La Vigne) Because now police officers have to think twice about doing anything wrong or using unneeded force due to being recorded. Also it reduces the complaints of citizens because they can no longer lie about what happened due to video evidence. With police body cameras positively impacting interaction with police I have gotten to hear about It personally from my father who’s is an active police officer. When his department was required to wear police body cameras he would tell me how effective it was when interacting with a citizen. Because before citizens would always act up for no apparent reason and in doing so sometime force would be needed to control them. But, now he says that citizens don’t become chaotic anymore because they now they are being recorded and the situation come out to be positive. With the use of police body cameras interactions are less likely lo become negative, and they also have had a great positive impact the world today. The raise of awareness of police brutality and the numerous publicity deaths it has caused the use of police body cameras around the country.
