Introduction
Leadership is defined as ability to influence and motivate others so that they can work effectively and enthusiastically towards the achievements of group goals. Leaders help the group to achieve their objectives with maximum application of its capabilities. Effective leader is made, not born. Characteristics of an effective leader will evolve with time and commitment of an individual. Learning from mistakes and foreseeing the future prospects makes leader effective.

(2) Democratic / Participative leader: will encourage subordinates to participate in decision making. (3) Free-rein leader: will uses very less power and give high degree of freedom for subordinates in their operations decision making.
(b) The Managerial Grid: This grid has two dimensions (1) concern for production: here manager is more concerned about quality of work, procedures to be followed, new methods and innovations, work efficiency, volume of work done quality of service. (2) Concern for people: this includes, maintenance of self-esteem of workers, providing good working conditions, maintaining interpersonal relations, giving responsibility on the basis of thrust instead of obedience.
(c) Leadership as Continuum: Leadership involves variety of styles, which includes use of power and influence from maximum to minimum. He cofounded Google Inc. He is currently CEO of Google. He invented well-known search ranking algorithm, “PageRank” [14]. Larry Page believes in innovation to grow further. Page urges his team members to believe in crazy ideas. He said in Google Faculty Summit 2009 that, “By tackling big ideas, that could really change the world; you attract incredibly smart people and achieve something worthwhile, even if it is not your original goal”. Page believes in building team and avoiding bureaucracy. Three of the six people Google promoted to lead major product division are initial 10 employers. Page is working on faster management decision making approach and openness. He asked his colleague’s to send him 60 words updates on projects. Top executives are said to be meeting a day in week to make collaborative and quick decisions [15]. Innovation, team building and quick decision making characteristics in Page made him more successful
