War and Nihilism
While war can be profitable to those in power as a way of strengthening their power and auhority, but its outcomes is nothing but misery and poverty for the people. The loss of lands, the establishment of new territories, displacement, depopulation, separation of the family members, death and devastation, the destruction of economic and social structures of the country, famine, hunger and food shortages, the destruction of houses, buildings and industrial facilities, etc. are what the war brings for common people while the most outstanding impact of the war phenomenon is its damage to the human spirit which results in the human …show more content…
As mentioned, both Khayyam and Hedayat experienced a war in their lifetime. Considering the former, he lived in a time when various wars between Empires along with the Crusades happened and in the latter case, the World Wars (I and II) occurred. What we should take into consideration here is that Khayyam was far away from the center of war and maybe he only heard about the news. On the other hand, at that time, the probability of the attacks of foreigners to Persia was not very high. The other point is that the war didn’t stop developing the country rather put an effort into its progressing. Conversely, Hedayat and his lovely country involved in two unwanted universal wars which its results were the invasion of the country, great famine, a large number of deaths, the outbreak of non-native diseases, the destruction of the environment and the deaths of animals which were very valuable for sensitive Hedayat. Actually, it is not a situation to be tolerated by a patriot and sensitive human being. Even, after the World Wars, the interferences of the invaders continued in the country and some anti-nationalist groups came into being. Scientific and industrial developments together with the advancement and emergence of new philosophies and ideologies after the darks ages of medieval period led human being to make a modern world. The efforts of the mankind in those centuries ended in the advent of the modern era. The world experienced developments in all areas: politics, economics, art, social structures, science, medicine, industry, commerce, transport, warfare, communication, technology and mechanization. Gradually, the interest of modernism reached to other parts of the world. Delusion of being superior because of the scientific discoveries and the subsequent advancements led human being to a new era where the role of religion was fading away in his life. During the Early Middle Ages, the church and the government paralleled with each other while the church supported and justified feudalism, the common social structure of the time. Little by little, the religion, Christianity in this case, and the politics reached to a unity when Pope is he who ruled. The rise of new political and social movements shook the foundations of the church and led to its division into Eastern Church and Western Church.
