Their bodies and minds are being overwhelmed with technology, media, noise, information, and sensory overload that puts undue stress on their developing systems profoundly effecting their health and well-being. There is increasingly convincing evidence for the unequivocal impact of mindfulness on a broad range of health conditions, cognitive ability, and social and emotional capacity. Neuroscience and brain imaging have demonstrated that mindfulness meditation alters neural networks changing the structure and function of the brain. For example, Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a well structured group program that teaches mindfulness meditation to relieve the symptoms of psychological, physical and psychosomatic suffering (Grossmann, 2004).
