The Z4, would become Zuse’s ultimate computer, boasting an upgraded 32-bit versus 22-bit floating capacity, also capturing title as the world’s first commercial digital computer. The Z4’s programming held instructions for, among others, SIN, root, MAX, MIN, and infinity. This Z4 model was truly revolutionary.
Yet again, in another series of allied attacks, development of this impressive Z model was brought to a complete standstill, and would later resume in 1949 where it would find its completion.
The Z1 through Z4 series computers were the very inventions that laid the foundation for much of our computing technology today. The world has benefitted tremendously from the innovation and ingenuity of Zuse; the invention of the Z series computers and the use of their predecessor technologies in our everyday lives, as well as the S series computers and their impact in modern warfare. Each has laid the groundwork for much of the technologies our lives are dependent upon today, which is precisely why Zuse is often regarded as the inventor of the modern computer.
