The Catholic Church saw their influence over the economy was being threatened by the acts of purifying lesser materials dismissed alchemy as man interfering with the natural order of God, and deemed all practitioners to be charlatans. Still, those devoted to the search for knowledge preserved the Arab teachings of alchemy and thus Christian Europe was flooded with works of the Arabian Art.
