From a young age women are taught to be on guard at all times, to be cautious of who we talk to and trust, and to be aware of our surroundings at all times. Growing up I felt that my parents were overprotective. It wasn’t until I started volunteering with BeLydia, a group that brings awareness to human trafficking, that I discovered the true dangers that women face in places one would least expect. Human trafficking not only affects a minority of women, but is a much larger issue that impacts our society and the future of young women. Human trafficking in suburban areas is a greater issue than many realize. Girls as young as middle school are preyed upon by people they presume they can trust and forced into trafficking.
