Country’s culture and social traditions is part of our identity and it can be seen in our daily interactions, the food that we eat, and the place we stay. Therefore it makes us unique and different from others. Singapore with just only fifty years of history our traditional values are been affected by globalization. Being one of the first world country in the world and having such small land, it is common that our country culture and social traditions is dying out soon. It is thus important to raise the awareness of how globalization can affect our country’s culture and social tradition. My essay will focus first on Social and marriage, next i will move on to Food, and lastly infrastructure. Globalization has given rise to cross-cultural interaction in Singapore. Singapore originally consists of 4 main races; Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian. Our local culture is a melting pot of the 4 different cultures. In the past, we believe in marriage between people of similar nationality and fixed marriages. However, as we open up our shores to foreigners for business interactions, we also open up ourselves to their culture and custom. Based on the broad research, it is clear that globalization continue to play the role of affecting nation’s development both socially and culturally. More importantly, research done is based on Singapore and some other ASEAN countries. Although globalization did causes negative effects on a country’s culture and tradition, but it has many plus point to the development. Government should considered taking more efforts and making votes on their country planning.
