Reflective Essay: Cultural Diversity In The United States

When giving this paper to write many things arose in my memory from my past. This paper has made me think a lot of how my culture has affected me not just in school, but also in my everyday living. I am originally from Guanajuato, Mexico but I have been in the United States for almost 16 years. During these 16 years coming and going from the United States to México I have been able to see a great deal of cultural diversity. Coming into the United States at an age of 5 was something that I was eye opening to me when I go into the school system here and see students that didn’t seem normal to my viewing. I was one of the couple of Latinos in my school when I got here to so see children that didn’t look like me was insane to me that we all didn’t have the same ways of doing things and talking the same language. I have been in Dalton for a while now so I don’t really have much diversity as I would in other places around the nation, that have more diversity then a small town like Dalton. I could say that my family has been a middle class during our time here. My house has been based on Mexican- American culture, we speak both English and Spanish, but the primary language is Spanish since my parents are not very well with English. I have experienced many encounters with people that have different beliefs and ways of living that have been taught to them in their homeland. I hope to have a classroom full of students that have their own way of seeing their cultural and that to teach them the way they have been taught from their culture backgrounds. Becoming a teacher will be a bigger eye opener to all those that have not seen other cultural differences that are around
