control). Due to this challenge information had to be collected from numerous sources that were not topic specific to create an argument. Arguments created by this method were often brittle because they included claims from sources with completely different contexts. To overcome this challenge all of the arguments formed on basis of various out-of-context sources were checked in the interview with the qualified and experienced pilot which strengthened some arguments such as current software is not capable of handling complex situations and removed arguments that were weak such as autopilot is like a pre-programed A.I. …show more content…
Action Research
The final research method equiped was action research where a small scaled experiment was set up to show the effect of A.I. control on an airplane. The experiment was scaled down immensely due to the availability of equipment and my skill level of programming. A car was used to represent an aircraft and 5-element program was programmed and uploaded to the car which in theory would allow the car to follow a solid black line. The solid black line represented a route.
This research method was the least effective out of all of the research activities because the experiment was scaled beyond the point it could output effective and useful results. Scaling the experiment extremely neglected the fact that there are sophisticated systems on an aircraft and it will not only rely on a single sensor to establish its position on a given route like done in the experiment. Due to this extreme scaling it was very difficult to connect the findings from the experiment to real aircraft situations which meant that the judgements and arguments created on basis of this experiment were brittle which reduced the reliability of arguments extremely. To make this data useful, it had to be linked to other information gained through other modes of
