Global warming has dramatically increased over the past 60 plus years, to the point where some if not many scientist believe if we as humans do not change our ways we will destroy the planet as it is. Climate change has had a huge impact on our air, landmasses, and water masses, especially those containing ice caps. In this essay I will provide research and evidence on how animal agriculture has an impact on climate change. My essay will contain three sections all revolved around my main point. I chose to chose this impact because, especially in todays world where we have people in power who do not believe in climate change, it is important to discuss the causes and detrimental effects and hopefully work together to come up with solutions. The definition of climate change according to dictionary.com is “a long-term change in the earth’s climate, especially a change due to increase in the average atmospheric temperature” an example would be the melting ice caps in Greenland or Antarctica. Increase in temperature can be related to emissions of greenhouse gasses, which are any of the gases whose absorption of solar radiation is responsible for the greenhouse effect. Examples are carbon dioxide, methane, ozone, and fluorocarbons. The greenhouse effect is the term used to describe the way the earth stays warm by trapping heat in the atmosphere. According to Nasa “most climate change scientist agree the main cause of the current global warming trend is human expansion of the greenhouse effect.” There are a few attributes to climate change for example the burning of fossil fuel, deforestation, but also animal agriculture. Environmental sustainability is the rates of renewable resource harvest, pollution creation, and non-renewable resource depletion. So if it can continue indefinitely it is not sustainable. A meat-based diet has become more apparent in that it is not sustainable. The demand for meat according to the worldwide watch institute will cause deforestation, erosion, fresh water scarcity, air and water pollution, climate change, biodiversity loss, social injustice, and possibly the spread of disease. According to the authors of the movie Cowspiricay switching to veganism would have a positive impact on the world since meat-based diets are not sustainable. The movie states that switching to veganism produces 50 percent less carbon dioxide, uses one-eleventh oil, one-thirteenth water, and one-eighteenth land compared to a meat-eating counterpart. In 2012 the total meat consumption was projected at 52.2 billion pounds, surpassing any other country for most meat
