The process can be tedious and time consuming to become a citizen. The United States legal system unfairly treats immigrants and refugees throughout the process of becoming a citizen depending on age, the countries violence, although the United States does not consider the immigrants living conditions in their country.
As an immigrant from Otherland Barri will be taking a longer process to be accepted as a United States citizen over a refugee. Barri is planning to leave his country on his own desire making him an immigrant not a refugee. The difference between an immigrant and a refugee is that a refugee forced to leave their country. Although, the process to become a resident in the United States differs between the refugees and immigrants. Immigrants are forced to be put on a list for citizenship but if an immigrant enters the United States they are liable to be deported. The United States has “11 million undocumented immigrants” forcing people to be pushed down on the list to be accepted into the country. The system should be less different from the process refugees have to take to become a citizen. The immigrants should have the opportunity to asylum to protect them from the unfit conditions of their country. The system should also have more compassion toward future citizens to understand the circumstances these people live in everyday. Children should not be forced to grow up without an education because of fear and a father shouldn 't have to shut down his business for the same reasons. The compassion would reflect to the people and make the country an overall less judgmental
