In the United States Congress there are currently 20 women who are serving as senators. The woman that was first elected as a senator and made history in the United States is Debbie Stabenow, who is the senator for the state of Michigan, and part of the Democratic Party. Senator Stabenow is passionate about many issues like saving the lakes in Michigan, and making healthcare affordable for everyone, but she in not passionate about the immigration issue and fixing the immigration problems that the United States has.
Senator Debbie Stabenow was born in Gladwin, Michigan, and lived there for majority of her life. She studied in the state of Michigan and got her master’s degree in social work from Michigan State University. When Senator Stabenow was just twenty-four years old she was elected for the Ingham county Board of Commissioners. She was elected to be part of the Ingham county Board of Commissioners because she was successfully able to stop a local nursing home from closing; this also helped her later on in becoming the U.S senator for Michigan. The Ingham county Board of Commissioners is the governing board for the Ingham county, they have only fourteen members and at one time Senator Stabenow was one of the first few women on the board.
After serving in the Ingham county board of Commissioners in 1997 she became a member of The Michigan House Of Representatives, and she served as a member from 1879-1890. Then she was elected to serve for the state senate in 1991,…
