If you are planning to be exempt form the English/ Civics test that you will take later during your interview you must submit a N-648 medical or disability form along with your application of naturalization form for any medical and/or disability reason (USCIS). If you submit a medical or disability form does not mean you will qualify for exemption of the English/ Civics test. There are other ways to be exempted from the English/ Civics test for example if you are fifty years of age and have lived in the United States for twenty or more years you could be exempt from the test (USCIS). The purpose of fingerprinting is for the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) to complete a full background check on you no matter your age but if you are seventy-five years old, the FBI will do a background check based off the paperwork you submitted (USCIS). Not fingerprinting can speed up the process due to not having to go to the biometrics office and waiting for your fingerprints to be sent to the FBI for background check. The FBI can do a simple background check based off the application of naturalization and later fingerprint once becoming an U.S. citizen but it is still a requirement. After you have been fingerprinted and passed, your background check you will be scheduled an appointment for an interview. During your interview, you will be asked questions based off the paperwork you submitted, also any other questions they may require, and at some point during your interview you will take you English/ Civics test unless you were exempt from taking the
