Case study twenty-two deals with two students who once did not like each other but then ended up being friends because of a teacher. Chloe Knight and Sara where two eleventh grade students who had a disagreement with their favorite rock band. Due to their disagreement, Chloe lashed out at Sara and called her an f-ing idiot. Mr. Hassan, Chloe’s science teacher, had seen the interaction between the two girls. The Jones model could have been used to resolve the immediate problems Mr. Hassan was facing by having clear rules and immediate consequences for the student’s actions. Mr. Hassan dealt with his students’ misbehavior poorly, he would just reprimand them and not take actions. Mr. Hassan should have spent the first two weeks of school reiterating the rules, standards, routines, and expectations of the classroom (Scarpaci, 2007, p. 72). By going over and making sure students understand what is expected of them they would be able to behave accordingly.
8. I believe a guidance approach would have been more effective in dealing with a student such as Chloe. In the guidance approach, the teacher talks privately with the misbehaving student and decides cooperatively on a solution (Scarpaci, 2007, p.13). Rather than embarrass Chloe by reprimanding her in front of the class, he would be speaking to Chloe privately on how to fix her behavior. With a guidance approach, Chloe would be able to figure out what’s causing her to act out and create a plan to fix her behavior.
9. I would have involved Chloe and Sara’s parents to assist in dealing with these misbehavior problems by having a meeting and discussing what is occurring in the classroom. I would inform the parents about the misbehavior in the classroom and how I am trying to manage the
