Tony Kushner The Illusion Analysis

On Thursday November 19th, I went to the King’s College theatre production “The Illusion” by Tony Kushner. During the week of the play, I did not know what to expect, because this was actually the first play I have ever been too before. Also, I never heard of the Illusion by Tony Kushner before, and I had absolutely no idea what the play I was about to see was actually about. When I was thinking about going to the play, I was actually very excited about seeing a live performance for the first time. On the other hand, I had the thought in the back of my head that I was not going to have any clue what was going on during the play at all, because of not knowing of the Illusion by Tony Kushner. In the beginning of the production, all I could focus on was all the old fashioned furniture and scenery of the play. At first, I did not have a clue what it meant, but relatively quickly I picked up on that the time frame of this production had to be taking place somewhere in the 16th to the 17th century. Looking around and seeing all the furniture, the positioning of the furniture, and all the older things, helped show the audience that the play was taking place a few hundred years ago. In the beginning of the play, I was not sure the point of the wooden bridge …show more content…
I believe if I actually took the time to look into the play more then I actually did, the play would have made a lot more sense to me from the start of the performance. On the other hand, I thought it was interesting that the play made me think about what might have been happening during the performance. Without reading or knowing what the play was actually going to be about, I believe it helped keep myself on my toes, making me extremely involved in the performance and focusing on every detail of the play, in order to follow what was going

The comical personalities all the characters had helped the audience become more intrigued in the story of this play. From this play, I liked that there was only one actor for each character. It made it easier to understand which character was which. The actors had different costumes, which made it easier to apprehend who was…

The Amish Project was performed at the SPC Clearwater Campus on October 11, 2015 at 7:30. The play was written by Jessica Dickey and was directed by Scott Cooper. The cast included Daniel Dagasse, Erin Nelson, Zachary Lillis, Nikki Tinebra, Heather L. Mackey, Ken Miller, Brie Tilton, Chelsea Hooker, Jordan N. Bertke, and Katie Eichler. The Amish Project was chosen to perform because the director understands the importance of a powerful story, and its ability to teach an otherwise unteachable subject to a modern audience. The Amish Project is a fictional play about the schoolhouse shooting in an Amish community in Nickle Mines, Pennsylvania.…

There were certain parts of the play that I understood such as Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, and the shootings of Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) and John F. Kennedy (JFK). The way that the events were presented were hard for me to understand especially when the events were repeated. During the shootings, the actors would strike eight different poses in sequence as well as out of order. It confused me as to why this would be repeated for an extended period of time instead of the play just continuing with another scene. When there was dialogue, it was short, repetitive sentences that did not help bring the events from the book of Genesis together with the American 60s.…

The only door should be used for the Roman kingdom, besides that, the set design will be mostly minimalistic, reason being there are so many different settings in the play. To stay realistic, in a scene change one can’t magically take apart an elaborate scene and piece together another one in a matter of seconds, it just isn’t possible. The sets, however, will be useful in a way to emerge the audience into the story instead of forcing them to imagine a background on an empty stage, going a bit apart from what Shakespeare does in his set. The characters in this story will be my main focus, as personally, I feel this is what truly brings a play together. To see a person portray true inner feelings has the power to move an audience and touch a person’s heart in a way that is hard to do.…

In putting together the piece that we performed before our friends and classmates, I believe that we did not consider the enormous task that lay before us. I think that we began the process with heedless optimism in our ability to create and successfully perform a show largely of our own creation; I know for my part I shared this optimism. However, looking back at the process as a whole I think that the problems in the final performance were mirrored throughout the development of production. One of the major issues throughout was widely unequal engagement and care.…

I went to the To Kill a Mockingbird play with my class on October 24. The whole school walked to the Dock Street Theater during second block. I sat between Chad Harle and Janae. Evaluation The purpose of our presentation was to highlight and become familiar with all the creative and technical elements that contribute to a successful theatre production. As a constantly evolving art, our group got to create and develop the innovative creative process for portraying the story to the audience. While all of us had minimal to no experience with working in theatre, we each got a taste of what the different jobs are like working in this business. Although we each had an individual job, it became apparent that working together towards a shared common goal remained essential to the foundation of creating a fresh unique production.…

Regarding the venue, I enjoyed the intimate space, but the thrust stage made it difficult to see the entirety of the show at times from my corner seat. The seating can really affect an audience member’s perception of a play, but I believe the director took this into account so that the actors utilized the whole set to include each audience member. I believe Yussef El Guindi made the play start slow and pick up once the flashbacks started to make the audience originally perceives Khaled as a helpful, normal citizen. Although Bartlett and Carl were rude and racist, I found myself growing to fear that Khaled was guilty. This back and forth paranoia made me ponder about my own perception of other cultures.…

I arrived at the Wednesday night showing of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the Bellamy not knowing what to expect. I had never been to a Shakespeare production before, but I enjoyed the first production, A Streetcar Named Desire, so I had high expectations for A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I thought I would like A Streetcar Named Desire more since it was a realistic play and a little more relatable than fairies and spells, but I was completely wrong. Even though A Midsummer Night’s Dream was not relatable, I liked it even more, mainly because of the theater space. Being close to the action in the Bellamy Theater is what set the two very different plays a part.…
