Todd Starnes, the author of “Americans agree with Trump: The illegal immigrants must go”, is the host of Fox News and Commentary and has recently written a book on the traditional values of America and how America has changed over time since the founding of the country. In the book, he talks about George Washington’s warnings, including staying away from foreign affairs which has caused problems in America today. When America started to get involved in foreign affairs in the early 20th century, immigrations had grown as many foreigners had come to America for better life quality and many other reasons and has since caused many issues that have stayed to this day. In the article, there is neither clear opposition nor clear supporter. However, he could be targeting both the Democratic and Republican parties’ therefore remaining neutral in his position. In the article, Starnes explains that,” the Republican voters are sending a clear message. They want a Republican president and want the old ways to be brought back” (Paragraph 14; Starnes). This quote sums up what the Republicans voters think should be in America. In the article, the author explains how the people who chose President Obama to fix the issue have changed their philosophies over what they think should be done with the immigrants and are now going against him. Todd writes in the last paragraph that,” President Obama lived up to his promise to fundamentally change our nation,” but now,” we want a president who will change it back” (Sentence 15; Starnes). This could be where the author wants to show common ground with the opposition or the Republicans showing that he may agree with the people however, it is not the clearest way to explain it as he could have provided a more specific opinion using keywords like I believe or however. For instance, he writes that,” 52 percent of the nation favors deporting the millions of illegal’s back to their home countries” (Paragraph 2; Starnes), showing the popularity of the Republicans. Facts like this can open the reader’s eye and this is what Todd Starnes wants to do. However, Todd only presents facts that are present without any past statistics. Present facts includes him writing and explaining how, “Republicans and Democrats support Mr. Trump’s plan” (Paragraph 2, Sentence 2; Starnes). However, he does not clearly state that the Republicans have influenced the people but after reading the article, it would be inferred that he is showing that Republicans are causing some type of influence in peoples decisions because he only writes present facts and explain how they are winning. In order to fix this, the author should also provide past stats to explain if the trend was before or after Donald Trump or President
