The Iliad gave insight into what society would have been like during the Greek Dark Ages. This epic was not only a good story that shows how anger and rage can be blinding and misleading but it helps to show some of the beliefs that these people would have had. It helps show the possible way people would have lived and how life would have been during that time. By reading the Iliad I can tell that war and glory was a big part of their life. I can also infer that their character was really focus on making a name for themselves. I could also tell that they valued power, pride, glory, and the ability to rule the battlefield. In the epic it tell that the different warriors have different customs that they follow such as doing or not doing something after a strong enemy is killed. The epic can also help explain how heavily reliant they people of that time were on the gods. They believed that the gods controlled every aspect of their lives from asking different gods to help them out and in war or to bless them with special abilities such as durability or stamina during war.
