With the invention of the steamboat came the opportunity to enter the middle of Africa. There were also war ships made out of steamboats. There were boats before the steamboat, but it was the first one to actually be self-propelling. Today you can till ride on one in St. Louis Missouri. I had the opportunity to ride on one while I was on vacation in St. Louis. It was something that people should try. It was like staking a step back in time. The whole inside was still very Victorian looking; it really hadn’t changed much in looks. The warships allowed countries to finally claim their land in Africa. It was a lot easier to claim land, if you were standing there with a gun in your hand. Also with the invention of the steamboat came bout the change in technology with firearms. There were some that were married but there were also many that weren’t married. They helped out a lot in India and China. In China infant girls would be killed because they weren’t born a boy. That is because in China, only baby boys were wanted. The boys were able to go out and work while the girls had to stay home and clean. Therefore the girls would be killed as an infant and then the family would try to have a baby again and this time they would hope for a baby boy. Also many women in missionaries would be teachers at schools and at university’s. If any of the women had medical skills, they would help at some local hospitals and they would help take care of the sick. Missionary’s also felt that they could saw people. If it weren’t for the missionary’s there would be many languages that wouldn’t have survived the imperial changes. The way that they saved the languages was by translating the bible. Today there are still missionaries all over the world. A lot of missionaries now, are in South America and Africa still. Most of the time now, many people don’t actually help the countries directly. We just send missionaries money and then they help spend the money in the countries that need them. A lot of money is going to Africa right now to help them get cleaner and healthier water.
