The Cellar by Natasha Preston is a novel in the horror genre. The Cellar is about a sixteen year old girl named Summer Robinson. On her way to a party, she is kidnapped by a mysterious man who calls himself Clover. He takes her to a cellar, hence the title, that contains three other girls. He renames them to the names of flowers. Summer, later renamed Lily, is stuck in the cellar for eight months until she is rescued. The idea throughout the novel is hope. When Summer is kidnapped at the beginning, she clings on to the hope of being rescued and refuses to give up. The author continues with this idea when her boyfriend Lewis continues to search for her for over eight months. The idea of hope ends when Summer is finally rescued along with Poppy, Rose, and Violet and when Clover is put in an insane asylum and the girls are safe. …show more content…

During Lewis’ point of view, the setting makes the story feel very exciting as he travels across towns trying to find his

Then after the big moments are past, the book will devote a few sentences to summing up a very large amount of time, whether that be a few weeks, a season, or very commonly: the school year.…
