This project took me almost 2 days to finish it. I really enjoyed working on this project. Since the compliance date for implementation of ICD-10-CM/PCS was on October 1, 2015, my manager Alicia gave me a list of ICD-9-CM codes I need to convert. Which will help the coders while the r coding. I was going to use the ICD-10-CM book…

The revenue cycle has been defined by the Healthcare Finance Management Association (HFMA) as “All administrative and clinical functions that contribute to the capture, management, and collection of patient service revenue.” In a hospital, the revenue cycle would include the entire lifecycle of a patient account from scheduling and preadmission through to payment. There are many processes included in the revenue cycle, and they flow into each other. When operating effectively, the revenue cycle is very predictable, but issues along the path can cause major effects later in the cycle. (Revenue Cycle, 2015)…
Until providers, billers, and coders adjust to the transition of ICD 10, the rate of inaccuracy in billing errors and claim denials will increase. However, once providers, medical billers and coders become more comfortable and proficient using ICD-10, it should enhance the ability to differentiate reimbursement based on complexity and outcomes. The greater specificity of ICD-10 should lead to better precision in reimbursement. When used appropriately, ICD-10 should result in more accurate and processed claims.…
In 1973, David L. Rosenthal started a provocative study of mental hospital. This study is “On Being Sane in Insane Places”. Rosenthal motivation was to figure out if psychologist, psychiatrist, and other mental health professionals could really distinguish between the mentally ill and the mentally healthy based on a diagnosis brought upon certain characteristics. Those characteristics included the context of the behavior, the persistence of the behavior, the social deviance the person presents, their subjective distress, the psychological handicap they might experience, and the effects on their functioning that the behavior might cause (Hock, 2013). Rosenthal decided to start this study because he questioned if those characteristics that created…
Delirium is coded by the DSM-5 as ICD-10-CM-F05. Individuals with delirium may present symptoms that suggest delusional disorder. However in delirium, individuals experience a fluctuating level of consciousness, altered sleep/wake cycle, hallucinations and impaired cognition are features of delirium that are absent in delusional disorder (Hilty and Bourgeois, 2016). Schizophrenia is coded by the DSM-5 as ICD-10-CM- F20, is distinguished from delusional disorder by the absences of other characteristic symptoms of the active phase of schizophrenia (APA, 2013). Schizophrenia delusions are bizarre in nature, and thematically-associated hallucinations are common.…
As of October 1st 2015 the International Classification of Diseases 10th Edition (ICD-10) is the national coding standard in the United States, as mandated by the Department of Health and Human Services in 2009. The International Classification of Diseases is an alpha-numeric coding system to describe patient’s conditions, symptoms and diagnosis for payers, providers and researchers; essentially providing a universal language for medical necessity and statistical analysis. The World Health Organization creates the system and governments around the world adopt it. The previous addition was adopted in 1979. ICD-9 no longer offered enough capacity in categories and codes to encompass variations in medical practice and to reflect the differences…
Well the truth is, no one knows how long it will be until every office is converted to ICD-11. What we do know is it took a great deal of time to transfer from ICD-9 to ICD-10, it took years! Although some are reluctant to have change, the WHO plans to present a new code book to the World Health Assembly by May in 2018. A new code book needs to be developed for the reason that there are new illnesses emerging each and every year.…

Reliability refers to whether a diagnosis of schizophrenia will consistently be given to the same patient by different practitioners (Black & Grant, 2014). Before the release of the DSM-5, Kraemer et al. (2012) completed an experiment to ensure the reliability of diagnostic criteria. They suggested the DSM-5 was a reliable system for diagnosing schizophrenia as they measured it using test-retest reliability measures. There are two other methods for measuring reliability: intrarater reliability and inter-reliability.…
The Information I found on the website gave me a lot of information that could help me and you guys. The US Department of health services has mandated the replacement of ICD-9-CM codes sets used by medical coders and billers to report health care diagnosis and procedures with ICD-10 codes, effective October 1,2015. ICD-10 implementation will radically change the way coding is currently done and will require a significant effort to implement. ICD-10 the tenth revision of the International Classification of Diseases is here. The US healthcare system has been preparing for this moment for several turbulent years.…

ICD can associate with some complications such as infection or painful shocks, but they also can associate with psychological conditions. In cases that patients have genetic heart diseases they can experience more physiological difficulties such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress (Calvagna, Torrisi et al. 2014). People may also suffer from the phantom shocks that can be the sense from one out of 10 patients. After a couple of years from the first implantation, the device may need to the battery replacement. This can occur because of the battery depletion or in some cases ICD needs an upgrade to the much more complex that are multi leads or even ICDs (Poole, Gleva et al. 2010).…
