Final essay I really enjoyed my humanities course this summer. I started off, with not having a clue about what humanities even was, but now I know more than I would of ever thought. In the beginning, I didn’t really like humanities but as the course went on, I’ve grown a little passion for it. I have learned many things as class went on and I feel safe saying that I am knowledgeable in the study of arts. I’ve learned about the history and the makings of many artists. One of those artists is Leonardo Da Vinci. He was born in April of 1452 and died in May of 1519. One of the things that he was most known for was is tendency to paint Biblical stories and paintings of Jesus. These painting include some of his most popular works …show more content…
Picasso is known for doing a lot of abstract work. He has great skill when it comes to using shapes to create paintings. For example in his piece The Weeping Woman (1927). This was an oil on canvas. It’s of a man and women with their facial parts mixed together. They look a bit nervous and are staring to the side. What I enjoy about this painting is the color scheme. Picasso has a unique way of putting different colors together in one painting. Another example of when he does this is in the painting Girl before a mirror (1931). This was an oil on canvas painting. It consist of a girls who is looking into a mirror but is seeing something other than herself. In this painting Picasso creates this idea that is really as it seems. Use cold colors like blue, purple and green to show the reflection of the girl in the mirror. The actual girl looking into the mirror is made a warm colors like white, red and yellow. I also like the shape variation of this painting it’s amazing how he is able to put different shape together to make one overall painting. For example, in Le pigeon aux Petits Pois (1911), he put together shapes like Triangles, squares, circles, and rectangle to create a very fait image. It’s hard to see but in the background there is a man and a woman kissing. In the top right corner are the words Café. This painting is an oil on canvas and is 26x21 inches in size. Picasso did not use too many colors in this one as he usually does but he used this other technique of creating a simple background with and abstract foreground. Yet the background still stands out to me. I really enjoyed this

I will be discussing the 1937 work of Pablo Picasso titled “Guernica”, located in the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid. This abstract oil painting has interesting black and white values, and intersecting contour lines to create interesting shapes and patterns. These shapes appear to be that of people and animals, expressing expressions of agony or anger engaged in a gruesome fight. Though this is not a realistic painting, we can clearly see that these people, hands, arms, and even animals are in a stressful…

You can see that Picasso has incorporated some white to bring more light to that section of the painting. He combines this same color around the body to capture the color of the body itself. The body is painted with a tan skin tone color. The hair is a brown color that also appears to be light brown emphasizing the light hitting the hair. The middle of the painting has a…

For instance, Claesz, in trying to push his moral rather than the pure sentiment of art for art’s sake, sticks to local color and a realistic depiction of all the elements in his Still Life with a Skull and a Writing Quill. Like using simple words to tell various aesops, this plain decision does not distract from the story of futility Claesz tells in his painting, and can appeal to the widest range of people purely by faithfully presenting real objects they can identify. He is not, however, completely ignorant to the power which color can wield, as the highlighted area of the skull has a powerful contrast with the dark background, again serving to make Still Life with a Skull and a Writing Quill yet more high-impact, so it can more efficiently deliver its message. On the other hand, it is extremely difficult to discern whether Pablo Picasso used local color in Still Life with a Bottle of Rum, as his integration of the subject with the background is so absolute as to be unable to tell which plane is which part of the image. His overall color scheme is extremely muted, working only in browns and tones of black, white, and gray.…

Pablo Picasso: The Tragedy In Picasso’s “The Tragedy,” he used several different techniques to create the visual elements in the painting. The three figures, carefully drawn, and the use of contour lines help shape their bodies and show the deep thought in their faces. The color used in the painting was mainly shades of blue. The beach is a greenish blue, set against the pale blue sea, the sky is a darkened dusky blue, bringing a cold, emptiness to the piece. It is as if you were looking at the painting wearing spectacles with blue colored lenses.…
