Reflection On Peer Feedback

Improved Essays
The evidence I have for the collegiate/peer feedback is the comment I received from the mentor teacher on my self-evaluation form, the self-evaluation form for the self-assessment/reflection, and 3 students surveys from each of the three classes that I taught for the student feedback (see Appendix 1).

Area of strength
An area of strength for my teaching practice would be the different teaching methods and multiple forms of literacy that I’ve included in the lessons, as I have been trying to do a different activity for each lessons, or includes visual, music, and videos in the lessons to give students different approaches to the contents. My mentor teacher commented the different tasks as “interesting and useful” for the students. The students

This comment can be found in all three types of feedback analysed for this essay. I have a small voice and since English is not my first language, can be hard to understand from time to time. I also tends to speak too fast sometimes, making it difficult for the students to understand. This is a critical aspect of teaching practice that I need to improve on as teacher’s talking and lecturing is the foundation of any successful lessons. Lack of assertiveness in my voice also lead to classroom management and behavioural management issues, as it is hard for me to control the class after giving students opportunities to do individual tasks or group activities, especially fro the younger year levels. A number of students, while not included in the appendix, stated that they would like me to make sure that the class is quiet when I set them individual tasks to work on. It is the sole responsibility of me as a teacher to make sure that students can all be fully engaged in the learning and not disrupted by other factors, and it is very important for me to have my presence felt in the classroom. Pulda (2001) article was an great example of how finding the right teaching style can benefit both the students and the teacher greatly. Developing the “teacher voice” will enables me to communicate and deliver my lesson and contents better and gain control over the classroom and individual …show more content…
According to Hattie and Timperley (2007), “[f]eedback is one of the most powerful influences on learning and achievement, but this impact can be either positive or negative”. Good feedback not only tells students the quality of their works but also guides students to improve and do better in the future. Teachers should monitor students progress closely and identified any difficulties students had in their learning. Teachers also benefit from effective feedback, all three types of feedback analysed in the essay had ben extremely helpful for me to help me develop my professional practice as a teacher. I have found the students feedbacks very valuable as I can know directly want students think and want for the lessons, which can be hard for me or other teachers to know. According to Hattie and Timperley (2007), the most important aspect of an effective feedback is the clear directions on what to be next for improvement. I have found that very true with the feedback I received, and I want to make sure that I always include suggestions on possible ways to improve or questions on how to do the tasks in a different ways when giving students

One thing that stuck out to me in chapter four was the section on “I-Messages”. Especially in Elementary classrooms, I think that it is easy for a teacher to point fingers at students when they are misbehaving. It is easy for a teacher to call out that student and tell them that they are doing something wrong. But when a teacher uses an “I-Message”, they are showing the student how their actions are effecting others without criticizing the student. When teachers use “I-Messages” students don’t feel attacked by the teacher and they are more likely to be open to changing their behavior because they see how they are effecting others.…

When grouping avatar teachers into three groups to form the best leadership teams, I used systematic choices when developing my heuristic. I started by looking at the three major data sources: (1) Leadership Qualities and Experience, (2) Beliefs about Reformed Teaching, and (3) Knowledge and Use of CCRS. From the three major data sources, I selected two types of data to assess strengths from each of the three major data sources. I also identified at least one type of data to identify concerns from each of the three major data sources. In Attachment 1, the types of data used to assess strengths and concerns for the nine avatar teachers are included in the table.…

I really appreciated the feedback I would receive from my drafts from Professor Hedge. The draft feedback was always helpful and it guided me in the right direction on what she was looking for in the assignments. Peer workshops sometimes did benefit me but it depended on who my partner was and their interest in my essay. When I was partners with someone who was interest in what I had to say in my essay it helped. I noticed that majority of the time feedback I would receive from my classmates often times was similar to the feedback I would get back from my professor.…

Our work could have been more productive and we should have had used our time wisely and then we could have gotten a better peer review. Peer Response Reflection

My previous experiences with peer response have not been as beneficial to me as teachers and myself would hope. In my English 111 class, my professor required the class to do peer responses in class where we had to read your partners paper aloud to him or her and then discuss what you liked/did not like about their paper. This made me very uncomfortable and gave me very little time to give a justified response to someone else's paper, so most of the time I just told my partner that their paper was well written. For the peer responses we did last week in class I found them to be much more beneficial in the sense that we were able to read another students draft "alone" and actually form an opinion and then fill out the peer response form alone.…

In addition, in my experience, feedback has been a great tool in guiding my writing and how I prepare for it. Being open to feedback can broaden your capacity. However, it is important to understand that not all feedback is useful for you and learn how to judge it. In the text “From Topic to Presentation: Making Choices to Develop Your Writing”, Hewett uses one of her writings to exemplify how to make decisions based on the feedback you receive (59-81). The first change she made was based on the comment of a student asking for a more specific date.…

The methods I could use to optimise clinical feedback experience INFORMAL FEEDBACK I find this a very useful way of establishing a feedback routine with a preceptee, because it can be given during or immediately after a performance of each specific task(2). When offered at the time of an act or shortly after(1,8,10), a learner can still recall the incident, therefore validating the reason for feedback. Burgess and Mellis have stated that feedback has the greatest impact on students’ behaviour when it is based on a specific task(21). Branch and Paranjape explained that while it is utilised regularly, the students may not realise that a teacher is giving an informal feedback(2); therefore it is important to indicate when the teacher is about to suggest or comment on a behaviour(2).…

She also only gave us 3-4 days to write an assignment, but would what the week of the assignment to explain what we and to do and expect everything to be correct. February 1, 2017, we talked about grammar and plagiarism, everything you go over in English 101. Yet, we didn’t go over on our first writing assignment until February 10th when she told us we had a peer review on Monday, this peer review was for an argument essay. We used different examples in the book, “The Curious Writer”, so we would know how doing an argumentative essay.…

In an assessment of my ability to give and receive feedback can be found to be challenging at times. I found that you need to give advice that assists in helping the other individual grow in their knowledge base without bringing in our own potential biases. In looking at myself as a whole, I know I may hold different biases that may be different from someone else which may cause potential conflict. I know that it is also important to use identifying areas that are needed to improve and areas in which the individual that you are giving feedback to excel in. I feel during the role play sessions with the use of the peer evaluation form and feedback given during our discussions had assisted me in learning the areas that I would need to work on more and areas that I have excelled.…
