Cynthia Ozick once said, "We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude." We may not want to believe it but this is absolutely true. Everyone has done it. Your parents drive you anywhere and everywhere without a thank you. The nice person who holds the door open for you every morning that receives a grumpy, mumbled "Thanks." Also, your best friend who stays with you through every high and low point, but rarely receives an "I appreciate you." We 've all been in those positions. Even if we didn 't realize it until now. My story isn 't unique or long, but it 's my story about the time I was taken for granted. I have a best friend. Her name isn 't important to the story. She has been my best friend since we were tots still being dressed by our mothers. One week this summer, she got into this fight with her mother. To cool down, she asked if she could stay with me. "Of course!" I said. She was like a sister to me, it was going to be amazing that she was gonna stay for the night. Little did I know, that one night turned into two, then three, then four, all the way up to seven nights. I spent that week treating her like an exquisite guest. When she was about to leave, I gave her many presents! After having her spend a week in my small house, she now only calls me when she needs a favor or something in that sorts. It was excruciatingly annoying!

My story makes me think of Aeolus, when Ulysses and his sailors sailed onto his island by accident.…
