In this fascinating short story,” The Most Dangerous Game”, a young man, Sanger Rainsford is in a shipwreck and is stuck on Death Trap Island. In order to leave, he must survive, being hunted by a man. General Zaroff is like a psycho man who is hunting him. This short story is written by Richard Connell. When Rainsford is caught in the shipwreck, he is trapped on an island and he meets General Zaroff. General Zaroff seems like a good person but is he really? After Rainsford meets General Zaroff, he seems full of delight to meet a hunter like him but he has yet to find the truth. “Game must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason.” Said General Zaroff. He spoke of other men as game. “Hunting? Good God, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder.”( Connell 17) Rainsford is on shock as to what general Zaroff said. Rainsford asks, “ Where do you get them?” Referring to game. “This is called Ship Trap Island. Sometimes angry gods send them to me.” Rainsford is starting to get uncomfortable. “General? “Tonight,” said the General, “We will hunt.” Rainsford was really nervous on account of him being hunted. As Ivan drops off Rainsford near a town for the hunt, Rainsford spent two hours walking through bushes and decided to leave a trail for the General to follow. After waiting awhile, Rainsford saw a man coming his way. It was General Zaroff. Rainsford is hiding in a tree as General Zaroff slowly looks up the tree. Zaroff looks to the floor and tries to find any tracks Rainsford left. In the story, Rainsford says that the General is carrying a small automatic pistol. General Zaroff just smiles and walks away and so Rainsford leaves the tree and goes to set a trap for Zaroff. With General Zaroff never losing, does Rainsford have a chance? Let’s see what happens
