The Hunger Games is a thrilling movie that will keep oneself fully concentrated throughout the entire journey. The main character, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), is a sixteen year old girl in a futuristic North America. This futuristic North America is made up of twelve districts controlled by the amoral capitol. Katniss and her family live in district 12. Every year one boy and one girl are randomly drawn from each district to participate in the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is a televised death match between children that were chosen in their specific district until there is only one survivor left, an unexpected and thrilling idea by the author, Suzanne Collins. When Katniss’s little sister is chosen to participate, Katniss volunteers to take her spot, along with Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), the boy chosen from their district. This is the moment in which Katniss shows a great deal of maturity and love toward her sister. This decision to enter the Hunger Games will now force Katniss to learn how to kill someone physically and mentally. The movie accurately depicts the three hundred and fifty page book in two and half hours. The main actress Jennifer Lawrence, who is Katniss, delivers another compelling performance that will most likely give her a run at an Oscar. As she progresses throughout her training before the Hunger Games start, she begins to become extremely concentrated and fearless. It’s an exciting part of the movie to see her become, in a way, cold blooded. As Katniss and Peeta train together, the audience begins to see a strong relationship forming between the two. They try and hide this because they know they may have to kill each other at some point in the “game”. Once the games do began there is a great deal of harsh environmental obstacles controlled by the rich and powerful who run the show. This is the part that everyone has waited to see unfold, as twenty-four contestants began their journey to survive. Some grouping with each other but most seclude themselves and run to find shelter and a place to hide to wait it out and allow others to be killed. Katniss experiences a very rough journey as she is stung by killer bees that knock her out for hours. When she wakes up she finds a young girl named Rue, they develop a bond that doesn't last very long because Rue got shot helping Katniss steal supplies. This is a very sad moment for Katniss as she does not know what to do. Of course until she finds a trail of blood which leads her to Peeta. At this point only three others remain, Katniss manages to kill these three and is left with Peta. This is the point at which the audience has been both fearing but waiting for. It takes an unexpected twist though, as the people controlling the “game” state over the sound system that two are allowed to survive, if they are from the same district.
