My favorite piece of literature is The Hunger Games trilogy, by Suzanne Collins. I first read this series of books in middle school and it was one of the first times that books really grabbed my attention while reading. Suzanne Collins’s writing style made you feel as if you were there along with Katniss and feeling all of the emotions she felt. The was a wide variety of thought and feelings discovered by Katniss as the story progressed. When there was a death in the story or love between two of the characters, the writing drew you in and had you wanting more. Along with the writing, the symbolism and deeper meaning in these books made a strong statement. There is statements made about income inequality, tyrannical government, and the struggle

My most favored book would have to Flowers for Algernon By Daniel Keyes. This book’s composition completely hooked me from the first few pages. Being composed of entry journals rather than the typical large plot, and containing excessive incorrect syntax intrigued me from the gecko. I managed to truly indulge in this novel in an astounding two days, desspite being pressured from a project. My emotions were completely rattled throughout the novel to the point where I was in tears.…

Jennifer Lawrence apologized yesterday for getting her panties in a bunch over the laughable notion that women should get paid as much as men. The Hunger Games star wrote an essay last week complaining about Hollywood’s gender pay gap but now says her period was probably just making her bitchy. “You know how us women are when we’re on the rag” said Lawrence “I should really just learn to stay in bed eating ice cream when my monthly friend is visiting. Otherwise i’m liable to run my mouth and forget my place like I did the other day.”…

A theme in the novel The Hunger Games is pain because throughout Katniss’ entire life, she has seen her loved ones die or get hurt. For example, in the book Katniss said, “‘At eleven years old, with Prim just seven, I took over as head of the family’” (Collins, 26). She had to grow up so fast, and with no mother or father figure, she experienced major character development in order to take care of her family. She had almost no one but her sister who loved her, along with the fact that she had no one to guide her through her life.…

The first dystopian piece of fiction to be created is credited to the work of H.G. Wells, who published The Time Machine in 1895. Since The Time Machine, hundreds of thousands of dystopian fiction works have been published, making it one of the most popular genres in works with young adult audiences, be it literature or movies. The movie The Hunger Games, based on a book published in 2008 by Suzanne Collins, is one of these works of dystopian fiction. The dystopian genre has several common themes; there are defining characteristics of the dystopian genre used, such as human rights violations, the society is usually subject to some sort of control, and the protagonist reveals these issues to the audience throughout the piece.…

The piece of literature I have enjoyed so far is The World Was Silent. The reasons why I have enjoyed this story is because it is about the Holocaust, Learning about the holocaust is so bitter yet strange. It’s sad how all these Jewish folks had to go through because of one person, Adolf Hitler. Over 5 million innocent souls remain lost due to Hitler. Even, children who were born with genetic disorders such as Down syndrome were to be put down in the hospital.…

One of the biggest film sagas of all-time came to an epic conclusion over the weekend – as the Jennifer Lawrence-led sequel, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, vigorously dominated the box office. With a thunderous debut of $101 million, Mockingjay – Part 2 put an exclamation point on a masterful (and lucrative) film series. Jennifer Lawrence reprised her role as Katniss Everdeen for what could potentially be the final time (though there are prequels and sequels rumored for the future), but not everything about the hefty debut is worth celebrating. The $101 million domestic return is well below the opening posted by each one of the previous Hunger Games installments, including Mockingjay – Part 1, which post a $121.8 million opening…

The inspiration for Suzanne Collin’s novel, The Hunger Games, came from channel surfing between reality shows where young kids were competing against each other to young kids fighting each other in a real war. The shows began to blur together in Collin’s mind and soon the story of Katniss began to develop (Interview). Katniss is a sixteen-year-old girl living in district 12, a coal-mining district, who winds up fighting in the Hunger Games after volunteering to take her twelve year old sister’s place. The novel takes place in a futuristic world after an apocalypse has flooded most of the landmass leaving behind a newly reshaped American continent now named Panem.…

Suzanne Collins in her novel The Hunger Games offers a critique on Western culture and civilization. In this novel through the portrayal of dystopian society that is driven by technology and consumerism Suzanne Collins explores and advocates against the commodification of youths and neglect for environment. The Hunger Games, first of a trilogy, set in a time after environmental havoc and massacre, replaced by a dystopian country Panem, comprised of 12 suffering districts ruled by the Capitol city. Panem is a “country that rose up out of the ashes of a place that was once called North America…a shining Capitol ringed by thirteen districts” (Collins, p.18). However, the rebellion of thirteen districts against Capitol brought chaos within once…
