The Hunger Games Sociological Analysis

The Hunger Games is a great film to tie this course all together at the end. Throughout this course we have learned many key terms and concepts that help us better understand the world and help people realize they are always part of something bigger than themselves. The Hunger Games puts everything we learned in this semester in to a perspective that we can all relate to and understand. The terms I will be using to relate sociology to The Hunger Games are the One Thing, fear-mongering, symbols, accomplishment of natural growth and social stratification. These terms will be the guide to reflect on the hunger games and to show that is a sociological masterpiece that’s true messages are overlooked. The term the One Thing is probably the most important concept of sociology and applies to everything and is seem constantly with The Hunger Games. This video is an example of fear-mongering. The video shows children killing each other in the games and talks about how the games maintain the stability within their society. It talks about the big war before the games were put into place and how the games were the only way they could think of to stop this war from happening. This is fear-mongering because they are inducing a sense of fear that their will be a war that wipes them out if they do not participate in the games. It is the governments way of redirected the peoples fear from where it really should be. They should be fearing the dictatorship in which they are a part of instead of the impending war to come in they do not participate in the games. Fear-mongering to avert their attention from what is really going on around them is the governments goal, and it had been working for almost 75
