In the novel, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and the movie Divergent both interpret many similarities, in conjunction with many differences. The novel is about a nation of Panem which is divided into 12 districts along with the Capitol. The protagonist is a girl named Katniss Everdeen who is forced to engage in a fight-to-the-death tournament after volunteering as tribute, in replacement of her sister. Divergent well demonstrates very similar concepts as it took place in a dystopian society leading to dehumanized and often fearful lives. Both signify that sacrifice is chosen from oneself whereas courage comes from the…

Most commonly when a book is turned into a film such as The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, there are many significant changes. Some fail to depict the writer’s thoughts when filming the movie; the alterations of the book to film are to add up to a thrill that the movie makers want to create for the audience to keep them tied into the film. The book is a better choice as it shows and tells more about Katniss’s strengths and some of her weaknesses. Katniss Everdeen reveals herself as being a character of a great heart and compassion in both the book and film for the ones that she loves. Collins shows this in both the book and movie as Katniss’s younger sibling Prim is selected in the reaping to compete in the games and she screams out,…

It just jumped into The Hunger Games: Catching Fire with Peeta ignoring Katniss. The first difference in the second movie and book, is the opening scene of Katniss looking over the water, getting spooked by Gale. Who happens to mention that he can only go hunting for game one day of the week due to his job in the mine. Although in the book written by Suzanne Collins, Gale wouldn’t be in the woods, “By this time Gale will have clocked in at the mines, taken the stomach-churning elevator ride into the depths of the earth, and be pounding away at a coal seam.” (4).…

In “The Landlady”, Billy Weaver is lured into a seemingly normal bed and breakfast by an old lady who, despite her gentle and unthreatening appearance, wants to kill him. It is a story about how those with cruel intent may take advantage of those who are innocent and naive. Although the book and the movie can be arguably similar if generalized, there are many differences that may change the way a reader/viewer may grasp the concept of the story. Since a movie and book cannot be exactly the same, the film version is bound to have things that differ from the text. One example of how the book develops the development of the story is with the setting.…

Although I thought that the movie was absolutely FANTASTIC, as a reader of the Hunger Games Saga, I was disappointed in what was left out.…
