The Hunger Games Mockingjay-Part 1 Analysis

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014), directed by Francs Lawrence, is the third Hunger Games movie and the first of the last two instalments of the franchise. Based on Suzanne Collins’ book, the movie follows brave heroine Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) on her path of becoming the Mockingjay – the symbol of hope and rebellion.

Mockingjay – Part 1 begins with a very lost and confused Katniss. Taking part in the games for the second time, her only mission is to save Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). She fails when Peeta is taken a prisoner in the Capitol, and later it turns out she’s been a part of a big plan. In the beginning of Mockingjay - Part 1, Katniss is safe, in District 13, where all the rebels, who have been waiting

This is shown with a beautiful scene where the rebellion is in its prime and the rebels are attacking the Capitol. Josh Hutcherson’s performance in the third Hunger Games movie is very different compared to the previous two films. He has substantially less screen time, but he gives an outstanding, chilling and award-worthy performance. He loses weight, but the bigger change is in his mind. Unfortunately, he becomes the monster that he once feared he would become, he becomes “just another piece in their game”. One of my personal favourite scenes in Mockingjay – Part 1 is when Katniss thinks she’d lost her sister Prim in the evacuation sequence. As much as a strong person Katniss is, this emotional and even painfully to watch moment shows her vulnerable side, her only breaking point, and it makes the viewer to feel for her. Jennifer Lawrence is definitely one of the main reasons for the success of the Hunger Games movies. The Oscar-winning actress impresses everyone not only with her fascinating acting skills, but also with her ability to look as young as Katniss, and the way she portrays the character to …show more content…
Some people would find the splitting of the last book into two movies pointless, but what is important, is that when you see the end of the movie, you want to keep watching. It leaves you breathless, wanting to see what’s going to happen next – this means that it’s a good formula. The ending of the movie differs from the book. Moreover, it’s even better. There is Alma Coin’s inspirational speech as a background, and in contrast, we see the shocked face of Katniss while watching Peeta, or what’s left of him after the Capitol’s transformation. Last, but not least, Lorde’s amazing soundtrack captures flawlessly the mood of the film, and gives the feeling like the song was written by Katniss herself. I recommend this movie for everyone who have seen the previous films, or for those who just want to see what “the start of how it all ends” looks
