In the Novel ‘The Hunger Games’ by Suzanne Collins the book is set in the Dystopian future. It is set in North America which is divided into 12 districts. Katniss Everdeen a 16 year old girl who has a younger sister, Prim who is 12 years old and a mother who have depended upon Katniss for survival ever since Katniss ' father died in a mine explosion when she was 11. The Hunger Games is when each year a girl and boy from the range of 12 to 18, are selected from each district by random to participate in The Hunger Games. She puts on a face towards the camera as appearing love structed with Peeta in front of the camera. But secretly she is in love Gale but know one knows this. Katniss feels as though she must put on a face as to ‘love’ Peeta to gain people 's vote in Hunger Games. She feels pressured into liking Peeta because of the name the capitol gave them which was the two ‘star crossed lovers’. Although she has no contact with Gale, he is always on her mind. Katniss must choose between being accepted by society or having her own identity. Katniss’s father said to her "As long as you can find yourself, you 'll never starve." this is about Katniss finding her true identity and saying how if you are true to yourself then there is nothing stopping you. In society today many people put on faces and try to fit in instead of being their true self. This is a important message as many teenagers struggle with this problem and just want to ‘fit in’.
In conclusion, ‘The Hunger Games’ is a book I feel enjoyed to read. This is because I feel like the characteristics of Katniss Everdeen and felt like I could relate to her. The strength courage and willpower she shows really impresses me and I love her character. I would recommend this book to teenagers because I feel like the book has strong messengers that teenagers in our society should know
