Reflection Paper On Hunger Games

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is one of the well known movies in the world, where people wait patiently to see how the story unfolds and ends. The movie details the adventure of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark , who are just sixteen years old and are forced to engage in a fight-to-the-death tournament against other children. They live in a world where they are limited to resources, and where the cruel government which is ran by the Capitol separates them into districts where they reinforce and support relentless class separations. The capitol feels that they must keep them “in line” and they believe that by doing so they must be separated. I believe that there was a lot of things that I liked. First, I loved the role of Katniss. I think one of the things about Katniss’s character that is amazing is that an individual can relate to her, whether it’s a guy or a girl. She’s not a super hero, and doesn’t make her self seem like one, she just wanted to protect her sister, and that exactly what she did. I love that even though the movie had a lot of action and killing, it still kept its gentle touch, and its drama, and love. The part that I found most important, was that Katniss never lost or forgot who she was, she was the humblest one in the games. The love she had and showed Rue was they type of love you’d find between sisters. Though some might see this movie as horrible, or disgusting, one must understand the themes of desensitization, hope, love, reality television, and government control, to like this movie. Throughout the movie Katniss comes face to face a lot of challenges and obstacles but she never lost hope in herself. She never lost her dignity no matter what the game made her do. I think that is one message a lot of kids can relate to and learn from and that is never give up and do what you feel is right, no matter what. And despite your fear or what life throws at you, you can over come anything because you determine your destiny. I didn’t like that it was kids put into a game and had no choice but to kill each other in order to survive. I felt that by the Capitol forcing its citizens to watch their children kill each other or be killed by the Arena on television was pretty harsh. However, there were some questions I had at the tend of the movie, one was why were districts one, two, and four working together when the object of The Hunger Games is to kill everyone? What would have they done if it came down to them? Would they have done the same thing Peeta and Katniss were going to do? I think there was a bit of confusion and question throughout the movie that the movie didn’t appoint. Despite the harshness and the confusion, I believe that the movie had a lot of messages, if not direct, indirect which made it a good movie
