Movie Analysis: The Hunger Games By Susanne Collins

In 2012, one of the biggest movies was The Hunger Games, based on The Hunger Games novels by Susanne Collins. The movie is about the annual event that the Capital holds to remind everyone of their victory in a war against the Districts. Also, it represents their generosity and forgiveness to those who has revolted against them. The games requires all boys and girls between the ages 12 to 18 to participate as tributes in a life and death battle against one another until only one remains. Katniss Everdeen is the protagonist, and who has volunteered herself as tribute from District 12. When she arrives at the Capital, she sees the glamorous life in the Capital far from the life in the Districts. The movie shows the extreme gap between the …show more content…
According to Mead, there are two sides of Self: The "me” is considered the socialized aspect of the individual. It represents learned behavior. The other part of Self is the "I" that represents the individual 's identity based on response to the "me".(2) Katniss grew up valuing life mostly after her father died in an accident years earlier. She dies not want to be the same as the other tributes that are willing to kill just to survive. The Capital is expecting her and the other tributes to give them a great show. However, Katniss is hesitant to kill, leaving her with a problem of how will she survive without taking a life. During the game in the forest, someone has threatened the life of Katniss and her friend Rue. In an instant, Katniss shots a bow arrow to the person to avoid death. Even though, she believes deep down that it is not right to take someone 's life, Katniss has done what she supposed to do in able to stay alive. In the battle of her "I" and "me", the "me" wins. She puts her values aside when her life has fallen into the line of danger. The "I" and the "me" are inseparable. A Katniss undergo a battle within herself.
