The purpose of this lecture is to analyse The Hunger Games and Robinson Crusoe. This is going to be done by comparing, contrasting and evaluating how the writer appeals to his/her audience and how the writer achieves his/her purpose.

Robinson Crusoe is a novel that is based upon adventure and survival. Crusoe, who is the main character, wants to become a sea explorer but was getting held back by his father who didn’t think it was a good idea. Despite his fathers’ concerns, Crusoe began sailing as a passenger on different ships. One ship that Crusoe voyaged on, crashed and sunk, leaving Crusoe isolated in the ocean. Luckily, the ship wreck was extremely close to an island, on which he took refuge. Suzanne Collins was born in 1962 in Hartford Connecticut. In 1980, she graduated from high school and then enrolled into the Indiana University. There she graduated in 1985 as a double major in theatre and telecommunications. From there, she went on to achieve a masters degree dramatic writing.
Suzanne moved into television, and started writing for children’s television programs. Her work was so good, that it caught the interest of, James Proimos, creator of the Warner Bros. children program Generation O. James hired Suzanne as his head writer and encouraged her to start writing books. From there, Suzanne Collins has been the author of many novels with her most popular being The Hunger Games series.
