Personality Traits In Hunger Games

Human’s are judged by their actions, and through the eye of psychology, one can understand the stories of an individual. The Hunger Games novel and movie incorporates a complex character, a 16-year-old girl, named Katniss Everdeen. She will do anything to keep her loved ones safe and survive in a world that puts humans against one another. In order to effectively analyze the underlying reasons as to why Katniss is able to become the heroic girl from District 12, psychologists share the unconscious reasons as to why people have the personalities that they do. Through the four major personality traits, Psychodynamic, Humanistic, Trait, and Social Cognitive, scientists have identified the personalities that help distinguish the reasons why Katniss …show more content…
Katniss in the beginning of the story was known to be an introvert, as she kept to herself and was focused on only keeping her family alive by fending for food. She did not like to engage with others, as she would hide away in the woods and spend her time talking to one friend, Gale, and hunting. In the category of conscientiousness, Katniss scores high, as she is organized and responsible as she had to replace her mothers position even though she is emotionally unstable with her relationship with her. She is disciplined as a 16-year-old teenager, who goes to work everyday and brings back meals for her little sister and mother. Katniss is a confident and strong individual who has a lot of hatred towards the capitol. She does not cooperate well with others as she was fighting with Peta before the games, and had to be coached by Haymitch separately. In the defensive class that prepares one to survive in the games, she did not cooperate well as she shot the bow and arrow through an apple to the men in charge of the situation. Katniss gives attitude to the people she was forced to work with and argues in order to get her way of saving her loved ones and standing up for her district. Through Neuroticism, Katniss is extremely confident in herself because she is able to take her sisters place in the games and knows how to survive. Due to her experience with her bow and arrow, she is confident in hunting for food and aiming for certain people and objects. She is secure in herself because of her experience with her mother’s abandonment in a responsible manner by not leaving her family or acting out, but rather becoming the mom/provider that her younger sister needed.
