The Hunger Games takes place in the totalitarian nation of Panem that is divided into 12 districts and the Capitol. Every year, from each district two young people are selected by lottery to participate and represent their district in the annual Hunger Games. The Hunger Games are televised games that are broadcasted as entertainment for the citizens of Panem where the 24 representatives are forced to fight and eliminate one another. At the lottery, a 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen’s younger sister is picked as the female representative for District 12. Scared for her sister’s life, Katniss volunteers as tribute for her sister’s place and enters the games along with the male representative, Peeta.

The Hunger Games takes place in the future where society has a technology-based life, where trains move at speeds of up to 200 miles per hour and the Gamemakers change, create, and destroy anything they want in an arena called Cornucopia where the tributes battle. As for 1984, the story is set in the year 1984 but was written 40 years before. It was supposed to depict life in what would then be considered the “future” but it shows a primitive lifestyle that is only based on technology in the sense of military weapons. The Hunger Games have far more advanced features of technology such as vehicles and ways of entertainment whereas 1984 has no modes of transportation other than their own two feet and no ways of having fun without being penalized for
