Human Resources Management is one of the departments that primarily use management information systems. Human Resources Units in organizations today put a lot of emphasis on sharing information, mainly the ones that affect the workforce. Human Resource Information System (HRIS) is a computer-based system that is used to manage the administration of HR operations and strategies. Its purpose is to increase more productivity in providing better information for decision-making. According to Karikari, Boateng and Ocansey (2015) “functions of HRIS comply with organizational interests in maintaining and managing the human capital based on the organizational vision and the strategy of achieving that vision” (p. 425). This provides the effective decision-making, which manage spending of human resources in an organization. This report examines the role of HRIS, its contributions to organizations and the challenges associated with its usage. The addition of information technology to the Human Resource industry has transformed the workplace today. HR professionals now have a large capacity not only to gather information, but also to store and retrieve it in a timely and effective manner. This has not only increased the effectiveness of the organization but also the productivity of management functions.
