Matus found through research that government’s concern about vaccines is cyclical stating, “The government has enforced immunization requirements when the need for them has become apparent, but when immunization needs ebb due to successful eradication and safety concerns arise, the government has stepped back and allowed individuals to forego such interventions” (2015). People usually choose to look at the known factors. They know that if they take the vaccine they are at risk of a side effect, but if they do not take the vaccine and do not catch the diseases they are in the clear. This course of thinking is where our society is currently trending towards. The research has attempted to reveal why some people choose not to vaccinate their children, how other children are affected by this, and future opinions on vaccinations. Humankind is an amazing species that will continue to strive for future vaccines to diseases that currently plague the world.
