The Hugs Project Analysis

In 2004, Ray and Karen stark began The Hugs Project, “to ensure that every American service member knows they are loved and appreciated by those that remain at home enjoying the freedom they provide”. The Hugs Project began serving active duty men and women by sending care packages overseas. The board members began this program to help veterans feel connected to their homes. The care package program has served as a community partnership. Many churches, scouting groups and caring individuals gather together to fund-raise and put together care packages.
The Hugs Project is a fiscally fit organization whose care package program is replicated nationally. The organization is able to boast of tenacious board members and zero dollar staff salary. HBOT is a medical treatment which enhances the body's natural healing process by the inhalation of 100% oxygen in a total body chamber where atmospheric pressure is increased. Veterans are referred to the program by the VA and other community partners. The Hugs Project conducts an entry interview to determine if a veteran qualifies. Once qualified, veterans are referred to Jenks Health Team where initial testing begins. QEEGs (pre and post brain scan) are administered. This test measures deficits and progress in brain function. Beginning in 2017, qEEGs will be administered as part of the HBOT total treatment. The qEEG and questionnaires help the program report and identify improvement by using medical measures and patient feedback.
